Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score

The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score is a points-based system used by the Government of Canada to evaluate and rank candidates in the Express Entry immigration system. The CRS score is based on various factors such as age, education, language proficiency, work experience, and other factors that contribute to a candidate’s potential success in Canada.
The CRS score is calculated out of a total of 1,200 points and is used to rank candidates in the Express Entry pool. The higher the CRS score, the better the candidate’s chances of receiving an invitation to apply for permanent residence in Canada.
The CRS score is primarily determined by the following factors:
  1. Core human capital factors: These include age, level of education, official language proficiency (English and French), and Canadian work experience.
  2. Spouse or common-law partner factors: If applicable, factors such as their education, language proficiency, and Canadian work experience can contribute to the CRS score.
  3. Skill transferability factors: These factors consider a candidate’s combination of education, language proficiency, and work experience to determine their potential for success in the Canadian labor market.
  4. Additional factors: These include factors like a provincial nomination, a valid job offer in Canada, Canadian study experience, or a sibling living in Canada as a permanent resident or citizen.

The CRS score required to receive an invitation to apply for permanent residence in Canada can vary with each Express Entry draw. The Canadian government periodically conducts draws and sets a minimum CRS score cutoff, inviting candidates with scores above that threshold to apply for permanent residence.

It’s important to note that the CRS score is subject to change based on the needs of the Canadian labor market and the government’s immigration policies. Therefore, it’s always recommended to stay updated with the latest information from the official government sources, such as the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website.
